Rewriting history: The Bolshevik Revolution
500 words
The following is about how Trotsky came to travel to Russia in 1917. It is well known that Imperial Germany (Prussia) enabled Lenin to travel to Russia, via Sweden and well financed, in order to subvert Russia and so remove it from the First World War.
The tale of Trotsky gives succour to the idea of there being a deep state conspiracy.
Trotsky was travelling to Russia from New York, but his ship stopped at a port in Canada. There he was detained, apparently on the instructions of MI5. He had with him ten thousand dollars or sterling in cash, which at the time was a formidable amount. It is claimed that this money came from certain Wall Street bankers, who had also funded his extravagant living expenses in New York. Note that not all Wall Street bankers were implicated.
Why did they fund a communist? It is speculated that they feared a prosperous Russia, which, prior to the war, had been going from strength to strength with a surging middle class. A country destined to outpace the USA (and Great Britain).
After detention for a month, Trotsky was allowed to go on his way. One explanation given is that the USA had demanded this on the grounds that he was now a US citizen, citizenship having been (remarkably) granted shortly before.
Whether for this reason or another, MI6 (foreign intelligence) overruled MI5 (domestic intelligence). It has been alleged that, in the early 1900’s, both Lenin and Trotsky had made regular visits to London in order to confer with their handlers.
Again, the motive seems to have been fear of a strong Russia.
Ever since Russia had emerged as a major power, the British Empire, which ruled the waves, had been wary of Russia, the greatest land power. What else was Britain doing in the Crimean War, sided with Muslim Ottomans against Orthodox Christians?
Yet now, in the First World War, Russia was an ally against Germany and Austria (and the Ottoman Empire).
It has been speculated that the disaster at Gallipoli, a campaign which was badly designed, was deliberate. It was intended to signal solidarity with the Russian ally, while ensuring that this ally did not grow strong vis-à-vis the Ottomans.
The grand design of the select Wall Street bankers, the British Foreign Office and possibly the US government was to weaken Russia via Bolshevik tyranny. While keeping a hand in for any profits to be made.
There were moreover remarkable lapses in the later fighting against the Bolsheviks by the White Army and intervening powers, including Britain. The Bolsheviks were too weak militarily to emerge victorious. Yet they did.
On gaining power Trotsky repaid the Wall Street Bankers promptly and handsomely. Gold and money was stolen from middle class Russians, who were murdered in masses.
